Camilian Gaille
The down-to-earthness
It is always an experience to visit Camilien at his winery. He greets visitors in a down-to-earth manner and with his friendly and calm manner - you immediately feel welcome and among friends.
Camilien loves working with nature and also enjoys the independence that his job offers him.
When asked what makes his wine so special, he reveals: “La simplicité et laisser le terroir s'exprimer” (simplicity and allowing the terroir the opportunity to express itself). He deliberately makes his wines as simply as possible. This focus on simplicity and the cultivation of exciting grape varieties that are not yet familiar to many wine drinkers shows Camilien's conviction and healthy self-confidence. Sustainability is also very important to Camilien in viticulture - he limits his use of pesticides to a minimum and deliberately leaves the soil green in order to promote earth life. So this is Camilien's secret recipe for his authentic and outstanding wine.
The terroir
Nestled between the Jura and Lake Neuchâtel, the Bonvillars wine region (AOC) offers a unique climate for viticulture.
The Vaud village of Onnens is located directly on the border with the canton of Neuchâtel - in an area that is not only extremely picturesque and down-to-earth, but also steeped in history: Here the Confederates impressively routed the Burgundians in the “Battle of Grandson” in 1476 and can take over the famous and beautiful Grandson Castle.
The backbone
Camilien became a winemaker primarily thanks to his great desire to be able to continue running his parents' winery and to be able to be creative. He is supported by two employees who actively support him and with whom he constantly exchanges ideas.
Camilien likes the harvest time in autumn best - this is where the result of a whole season's work on the vine is produced. At the same time, it also marks the start of winemaking in his cellar. He enjoys being able to work with nature and at the same time be able to create his product in a truly consistent way.
We are pleased to be able to offer you two great wines from Camilien: the white Charmont and the rosé Oeil de Perdrix. Camilien is also convinced that, together with wiihaa.ch, he can set new impulses in the Swiss wine market while remaining down-to-earth and authentic.
