Andreas & Elias Neukomm

The passion

Nature is what is particularly important to both of them in their winemaking activities. You can really feel the passion for the down-to-earth craftsmanship out there among the vines. Andreas says pruning the vines is his favorite activity - he enjoys the peace and quiet and direct contact with the plants and nature. This makes it all the more important for him to further improve the biodiversity on his soil and thus integrate the natural beneficial organisms into viticulture. In both viticulture and vinification, the Neukomms try to intervene in the natural processes as little as possible.

The terroir

The vineyards of Hallau, which are picturesquely located around the striking church, belong to the Klettgau wine-growing region (AOC Schaffhausen). It is a very open area with lots of space. In the past, the region was considered to be a bit too cold in terms of climate. Today, however, against the background of a warmer climate, the cool climate of the Klettgau can be seen as a location advantage compared to the established regions in Europe.

In short: It is a friendly wine region with a lot of potential.

The conviction

Neukomm's winegrowing activities go back over many generations. It was common practice for the ancestors of Andreas and Elias to have a main job and also dedicate themselves to viticulture. So Andreas was able to seize the opportunity to take over his parents' business. With Elias, the next generation is already in the starting blocks - and with new ideas and a lot of energy, Elias wants to further develop the winery and make it even more sustainable.

With the Pinot Noir from the barrique, we dared to try Andreas' favorite wine. Both generations of winemakers reject the oft-quoted credo “the better the wine, the heavier the bottle must be”: They are very open to new formats that are as resource-efficient as possible. And so we can all be happy that the Pinot Noir from the oak barrel is now available to enjoy at wiihaa.ch!
